New Year Fishing news

Do we have news for you! Exciting fishing updates on Fly fishing and Game fishing from our team at Cast-A-Way…

Desroches is fast becoming known as one of the best destination in the Indian Ocean Islands for chasing Permit of fly. The neighbouring atolls of St Josephs and Poivre, were these fish are caught can easily be accessed for a day trip.

These atolls don’t only have great numbers of Permit but also hold a healthy population Bonefish, which helps to pass the time when fishing for the “Holy Grail” and most difficult fish to catch on fly.

Recently the area has also been enjoying an influx of a few other species like Triggerfish and Trevally. Most of the Trevally have been small with the exception of one fish which measured 109 cm from nose to fork. So if you are coming to Desroches be sure to spend a couple days fly fishing St Josephs or Poivre.

The early part of this year has invited some amazing catches for the Desroches Cast-A-Way team. The first Back Marlin of the year was landed and released on Amani, a huge fish estimated at of over 500 pounds.

The Yellowfin Tuna are a clear indication on the Marlin presence and have been around in exceptional numbers and to the extent that they can sometimes be a menace while trying to tease the Sails that are eager for a bait-and-switch.

The catch board has listed numerous “Sailfish Catch and Releases” over the last few weeks. The juvenile Dogtooth Tuna have at times been eating everything in sight with as many as 35 Dogtooth being caught in just one morning and the largest specimen being approximately 40kgs.
